How You Can Help Network Our Dogs and Grow Second Start Rescue
Second Start Rescue is a foster-based organization dedicated to saving dogs from Texas and finding them loving homes on the East Coast — or anywhere the perfect family is waiting! Unlike traditional shelters, we rely on a network of incredible fosters to provide safe, loving homes until the dogs are adopted. This approach allows us to rescue more dogs and ensure they receive the care they need to thrive.
Whether you’re currently fostering for Second Start or not, you can join local community groups on Facebook or other forums to help spread the word. Share this message or your own personalized version to introduce Second Start Rescue to your area.
Here’s How You Can Help:
1. Connect Locally: Look for community-focused Facebook groups or online forums in your area, such as neighborhood groups, pet-related groups, or buy/sell/trade groups that allow animal posts. These platforms are excellent for spreading awareness about Second Start Rescue and our mission.
2. Engage Your Community: Use the provided templates (below) to introduce Second Start Rescue to your local community. Adjust the wording to match your voice and passion for the cause! By sharing our mission, you can help recruit volunteers, find adopters, and build a broader support network.
3. Promote Your Foster Dog: Use the Foster Dog Post Template (below) to highlight the dog in your care. Including photos and videos makes a big impact and increases the chances of finding them a loving home.

Looking for a way to make a difference for dogs in need?
Second Start Rescue is a foster-based organization dedicated to saving dogs from Texas and finding them loving homes on the East Coast — or anywhere the perfect family is waiting! As a foster-based rescue, we do not operate out of a physical shelter. Instead, our incredible network of fosters provides temporary, safe, and loving homes for dogs until they are adopted. This allows us to rescue more dogs and give them the care they need to thrive.
Ways to help:
Fosters: Fostering saves lives by making space for more dogs to be rescued and begin their journey to forever homes.
Volunteers: You don’t need to be local to make a difference! Application checking, networking, and fundraising can all be done virtually.
Adopters and Advocates: Adoption changes lives, but even if you’re not ready to adopt, you can still help by advocating for our available dogs. Share their stories on social media or within your community to connect them with loving families.
We adopt all along the East Coast (and beyond if the perfect home is found), and by joining our team, you can help rescue and rehome more dogs. Share their stories, volunteer your time, or foster to provide a temporary safe haven — every effort makes a difference!

Meet Millie!🐾 Millie is a resilient girl currently fostered in Delaware through Second Start Rescue and searching for her forever home.
Just two months ago, Millie was on the brink of death in Texas due to severe anemia. Found covered in fleas and ticks and locked behind a dead-bolted gate, she was rescued after a kind feeder’s persistence. Rushed to the ER, she received a life-saving blood transfusion and made an incredible recovery!
Now, Millie is in Delaware, ready for a family to love her forever. She’s middle-aged, great with cats and dogs, and has the sweetest personality. Let’s help Millie find the home she deserves!
If you’re interested in adopting Millie, visit www.secondstartrescue.org to apply or learn more. SSR also has two other dogs in Delaware and is looking to expand its presence in the area with more fosters and volunteers.
